Trouble with Trolls
—Jan Brett
Do you remember poring over illustrated books long before you were able to read? Me, too - and I am faintly envious of children who can be brought up with Jan Brett's books. The artwork is very detailed and each set of pages has a story-within-the-story running along the lower edges. We carry the books of hers that have a connection to knitting - even though a somewhat thin connection.
Here, the heroine, Treva, outwits a pair of thieving Trolls by using her hand-knitted sweater, her hat, boots and skies.
Hardcover. $14.95

Christmas Trolls
—Jan Brett
We meet our intrepid heroine, Treva, again dealing with the thieving Trolls and their hedgehog accomplice. Treva skillfully and patiently teaches the Trolls the pleasures of giving. She and her little brother wear lovely handknitted sweaters; the one pictured on page 6 was the model (with Jan Brett's permission) for the design featured in our Wool Gathering #75. As with all Ms. Brett's books, this one is filled with lovely, rich illustrations. Hardcover. $15.95 |

Pelle's New Suit
—Elsa Beskow
Other knitters from my era may get the same nostalgic reaction to the wonderful watercolor illustrations in this gentle book.
Pelle is a Swedish boy who has a pet sheep. As the sheep's coat gets longer and longer, Pelle's coat gets shorter and shorter. Pelle shears his sheep and trades chores with his two grandmothers to get the sheep's wool carded and spun. He runs an errand for the painter to get some handsome blue dye and watches the baby for his mother while she weaves the spun and dyed yarn into cloth. A number of chores are swopped with the tailor to get Pelle his new suit. Hardcover.
