To paraphrase EZ’s comments from her May-Chapter in Knitter’s Almanac, do not rush to produce hats, mittens, and socks during the cold months when they are most in demand. Knit them at your leisure during spring and summer. Small projects are easily portable and will not lie heavy in your lap.
